Dear ASPHER Member!
I am contacting you as the president of the Section on Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion of EUPHA. I have had intensive discussion with your Association Manager Robert Otok on the links between injury prevention and public health. As you may know injury is the Nr. 1 killer of children and young adults in Europe. The aim of our section is to enhance communication in injury and violence prevention and safety promotion across Europe, including promoting the dissemination of research results and the exchange of knowledge of evidence based practice in injury and violence prevention.
In particular we aim to:
a) increase awareness of injury and violence prevention and safety promotion in the broader public health community,
b) increase the visibility of issues related to injury and violence prevention beyond the community of injury researchers,
c) strengthen the links between researchers, policy makers and practitioners,
d) support the dissemination of research results and their implementation into practice,
As a new section we want to take part in EUPHA activities, as well as in those of European organisations such as ASPHER. We want to promote the concept of injury prevention and safety promotion in the curriculum of public health schools in Europe, so that public health experts are aware of the importance and preventability of this phenomenon in Europe and in their own countries.
Thus, Robert Otok and I would like to ask you to answer some questions in order to determine what role injury prevention and safety promotion currently has in the ASPHER training, and what interest exists in collaborating together.
Please fill in the questionnaire on the following two pages, as a mapping exercise for ASPHER and the Injury Section. Also, feel free to contact me per phone (+47 95 75 98 50) or email (
johan.lund@medisin.uio.no) to discuss this in further detail.
Thank you for your attention and we look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Johan Lund, PhD
