The Central European Journal of Public Health (CEJPH) is a new peer-reviewed journal published in English and continues the tradition of the internationally recognized Journal of Hygiene, Epidemiology, Microbiology and Immunology, after its last volume 36. CEJPH was created in response to economic changes that take place in European countries, bringing about new concepts and approaches in the field of public health protection. CEJPH is issued quarterly and features original articles on public health protection and promotion, particularly on environmental health risks, the role of diet in health promotion, results of health population studies and critical reviews of specific health issues, including public health interventions such as immunization, and intervention efficacy. 22.09.2009 - European Commission | Strategy Adoption

The European Commission has adopted a strategy paper supporting Member States in their efforts to respond efficiently to the pandemic H1N1 2009. In order to minimise the negative impact of the pandemic, the Commission highlights the importance of close coordination between EU Member States in all related sectors affected by the pandemic. The Commission leads the EU coordination on the pandemic through well established structures such as the EU's Health Security Committee and with the scientific advice provided by EU Agencies (e.g European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and European Medicines Agency). The European Public Health Alliance is organising a workshop on The Future of Public Health Advocacy in Poland on 26 November 2009, as a pre-conference event of the Second European Health Conference in Lodz, Poland. The European Commission is calling for proposals within the 7th RTD Research Framework, SSH.2010.2.1-4 under the topic "Social Platform on Sustainable Lifestyles". The harmonization of the medical speciality in Public Health in the EU countries - a challenge for the profession by Ragnar Westerling. "Facing the challenges for Public Health in Europe it is of importance to outline a common strategy for a European training programme in Public Health. At present the medical speciality of Public Health is strengthening its position in the EU medical specialist system. According to the present EU decision the speciality Public Health Medicine will be automatically recognized in all EU countries, i.e. a specialist trained in one EU country will be recognized as a specialist in all EU countries.1 As a consequence, Public Health today is one of the established specialities in EU. Thus, the need for harmonization of the specialist training is further emphasized. The objective of this paper is to discuss the process of harmonization of the speciality in Public Health in the EU countries. ASPHER President-Elect and New ASPHER Executive Board members elected!: Prof. Antoine Flahault EHESP has been elected President-Elect of ASPHER at the 2008 General Assembly in Lisbon, 5 November. He will become ASPHER President in November 2009. Also, following the decision of the General Assembly Dr Ursula Schlipköter (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) joined ASPHER Executive Board and Prof. Theodore Tulchinsky (Hadassah Braun SPH Hebrew University), already ASPHER EB member 2005-2008, was re-elected for another 3 years. New Members of ASPHER: At the Lisbon General Assembly 2 SPHs became New Members of ASPHER, namely College of Health Care Izola, University of Primorska and Umea International School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine Umea University.

Erasmus Mundus grant to teach on the EUROPUBHEALTH Masters Course (Public health): Europubhealth is a two-year fully integrated European Masters Course coordinated by EHESP French School of Public Health and supported by the Erasmus Mundus programme. It includes five other partners: University of Rennes 1 (France), University of Copenhagen (Denmark), Andalusian School of Public Health (Spain), University of Sheffield (United Kingdom) and and Jagiellonian University of Cracow (Poland). The Erasmus Mundus programme offers grants to third countries scholars (teachers) who are interested in carrying out research, teaching assignments and scholarly work for 3 months linked to the Europubhealth Masters Course. For the next academic year, the participation of those scholars is planned to take place between April to July 2010 in two venues: 2 months at one of the following institutions: University of Sheffield (United Kingdom), Andalusian School of Public Health (Spain), University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and Jagiellonian University of Cracow (Poland). 1 month at the collective module gathering students in the EHESP School of Public Health in Rennes (France). For the 3 month stay, scholars receive a grant of 13.000 Euros. To be eligible, applicants should meet the following criteria of eligibility: not be resident of any European countries members states or participating countries; be a high quality scholar holding a doctorate degree or equivalent in public health or other related disciplines; have at least five years of experience in Education/Research; be able to fulfil language skills conditions for the chosen locations; provide all the necessary documents (passport copy authenticated, evidence of academic or professional qualifications, copies of language certificates. First Korean HiT

The Observatory’s first health system profile on Korea focuses on major health care reforms implemented in the last 10 years. These include the integration of existing health insurance funds into a single insurer system in 2000 and the incremental expansion of the benefit package. A concerted focus on technology assessment also led to the establishment of the National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency in 2008. The future development of the health care system is intended to shift towards a greater focus on preventive health care.
