To effectively monitor and promote climate and health education within schools of public health across Europe, ASPHER is developing a comprehensive, integrated, and longitudinal Climate Change and Health Education Indicator, launching in 2025.
This indicator will measure the following dimensions:
Number of Schools of Public Health Offering Training on Climate and Health:
Tracking the growth in educational institutions engaging with this critical topic.
Quality of Training:
Hours of instruction or ECTS credits.
Areas of focus (e.g., mitigation, adaptation, health systems).
Depth of content delivered.
Accessibility:
Delivery modes: on-site, hybrid, or remote learning.
Language offerings.
Cost of participation.
Levels of Professional Training Offered:
Vocational, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate-level programs.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD):
Availability and quality of CPD training opportunities.
Adherence to ASPHER Core Curriculum:
Evaluating alignment with the Climate and Health Chapter of ASPHER’s core curriculum.
These metrics will be reviewed annually through structured surveys to capture emerging trends and dynamics in climate and health education across Europe. As the field evolves, the indicator will adapt, incorporating new metrics as necessary to maintain relevance and accuracy.
The indicator will be developed in collaboration with the European Climate and Health Observatory (ECHO) (learn more) and with academic input from Lancet Countdown Europe (LCDE) (2024 Report).
This initiative aims to provide a robust framework for monitoring progress, fostering accountability, and enhancing the quality and reach of climate and health education across Europe.
