The ASPHER Core Curriculum Programme (CCP) is a flagship initiative in curriculum development and capacity-building for public health education across Europe. Since 2006, ASPHER has been defining core competencies for public health professionals, ensuring alignment with the dynamic needs of the field.
In 2022, the CCP adopted a new direction to address the challenges of the 'New Normal,' shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic and other global crises. This reimagining of the 5th Edition of ASPHER Core Competences for Public Health Professionals (2018) emphasizes sustainability, resilience, and relevance in addressing contemporary health threats. The updated curriculum integrates existing Competency Frameworks and the WHO Essential Public Health Functions (EPHFs) to prepare professionals for future challenges.
As part of this effort, the ASPHER Climate and Health Working Group contributes to Chapter 18: Planetary, Environment and Climate Health (View Chapter). This chapter delves into the interconnectedness of planetary health, environmental changes, and climate impacts on human health. It equips learners with the knowledge and skills needed to address these critical issues, fostering expertise in climate adaptation, mitigation, and the promotion of health resilience.
