About the training

Master’s Programme in Public Health

The two-year Master’s Programme in Public Health is offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences with the Institute of Maritime and Tropical Medicine at the Medical University of Gdańsk. It is designed for graduates of public health, health sciences, medical and related programmes, as well as for graduates of disciplines such as economics, management, political science and sociology who wish to apply their knowledge and skills to population health and healthcare systems. The programme is also suitable for professionals seeking to develop their careers in healthcare institutions, public administration, non-governmental organisations and other organisations involved in protecting and improving population health.

The curriculum reflects the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary public health and combines scientific knowledge with practical professional competencies. Students develop skills in healthcare management, human resource management, population health strategy, health promotion, influencing health-related behaviours and responding to public health emergencies. The programme also strengthens analytical and critical thinking, teamwork, leadership and entrepreneurial competencies, preparing graduates to design, implement and evaluate evidence-informed solutions in complex organisational and policy environments.

Teaching is delivered in small groups, enabling an individualised approach, active dialogue with academic staff and close alignment with students’ professional interests. Courses are taught by academics and practitioners with managerial experience in public institutions, non-governmental organisations and the private sector, ensuring a strong connection between theory and practice. Students can further develop their interests through research projects, student scientific societies and their master’s theses. In 2025, the Public Health programme delivered by the Department of Public Health and Social Medicine was ranked third among public health programmes in Poland, reflecting the quality of education and the commitment of its academic staff.
