Professor at the Andalucian School of Publica Health (EASP) since 2000 (PhD, MSC), my research interest has been focused on Environmental Health and Public Health Policy issues. Prior to this, I undertook intensive research activity for ten years at the Spanish National Research Council in Seville and the University of Edinburgh (Scotland), working on projects related to climate change and environmental risk assessment.

Within the EASP, my primary expertise lies in the field of human health risk assessment (HHRA) and health impact assessment (HIA) for exposure to environmental risk factors (ambient air pollution, endocrine disruptors, etc.) and characterisation of associated health impacts. To this respect, I have coordinated and participated in several national and European projects related to human exposure to substances with endocrine-disrupting properties and the use of HIA as a tool for shaping healthier policies. As part of my professional responsibilities, I have contributed to various advisory committees for both the Andalusian Government and the Spanish Government to develop regulations and strategies in Environmental Health and HIA.

To enhance my professional practice and kowledge, I have conducted several international scientific visits (ATSDR-CDC, 2002; DG-SANTE, 2008;  WHO-Environmental Health Center-Bonn, 2012; JRC-Ispra, 2018).

As a lecturer, I have effectively conceptualized, designed, and delivered over 120 innovative training programs for Public Health Officers on diverse Environmental Health topics, including chemical safety, drinking water quality, and risk assessment. Additionally, I provide contemporary scientific and technical expertise and policy-relevant advice to both the Andalusian and Spanish Governments.

At present, I serve as president of the Health Impact Assessment section within EUPHA.
